1. Plan, Plan, and Plan Some More!

Okay, I know planning isn’t the most exciting part, but trust me, it’s a game-changer! Sketch out your ideas, set a realistic budget, and create a timeline. It’s like having a roadmap for your renovation journey – you’ll thank yourself later! Make sure whoever is helping you whether it’s a partner, friend, sibling, is aware of the plan too and keep them up to date.

Knowing the plan for each day ensures that things actually get done in a timely fashion. Of course, not everything works out but if you have a long term plan then you’ll know what you can be doing whilst you wait on something else.

2. Embrace the Power of Lists

Channel your inner Monica Geller and make lists your new best friend. Shopping lists, to-do lists, contractor lists – you name it! It’s oddly satisfying to tick things off, and you’ll feel super organised.

This also comes back to sharing the plan and information with whoever is helping, if there are lists, it’s even easier to see what needs to be done and what’s coming up next.

3. Create a Renovation-Free Zone

Designate a “calm zone” in your home where you can escape the dust and chaos. It could be your bedroom or a cozy corner in the living room. Try not to have too many soft furnishings in it and keep things covered that you like, honestly I’m fed up of sanding dust, it really does get everywhere but try to keep this area away and free from it all!

4. Protect Those Floors Like a Pro!

Now, here’s a tip that’ll save you tears (and money) down the line – invest in temporary floor protection! This is such a great idea for when you don’t want to replace your floors and it’d be really expensive to damage them. It doesn’t matter if it’s a small job or huge one. After scraping tiny speckles of paint off my floors for months, I definitely wish I would have covered them up better.

Temporary flooring protection will not only keep them safe but it really cuts down on cleaning up time too, because let’s face it, that’s the worst part!

5. Treat Yourself Along the Way

Last but not least, don’t forget to pat yourself on the back as you make progress. Finished painting a room? Treat yourself to a fancy coffee! Installed new cabinets? Time for a mini dance party! Celebrating small wins makes the whole process more enjoyable.

It’s definitely kept us happy having little breaks, buying each other small gifts and just taking a moment to say, job well done!
