A child’s education is ultimately going to shape them into the talented individuals they will be in years to come. Now is the time to prioritise your time with your child and help them unlock the talents due to all the hard work they put into everyday life. There won’t be many other opportunities to have this time with your child, so it’s worth having that time with your child to tap into that potential during their school years.

Schools also ensure that the support from parents is reciprocated through each student. Some of the best independent schools in Surrey have care and support for each child and parent to help work on core strengths and weaknesses – like every school should provide.

There are however many different methods parents can help children aside from the direct school support. They can assist in parents’ evenings, work on homework together and make time for learning activities outside of the classroom. Here are some ways you can help your child do the best they can with their studies.

Have a good study space set up for your child

Most children like to have a quiet area to work on their homework, revision or other coursework that’s going to help them succeed. This gives them a lot more focus as opposed to being surrounded by plenty of distractions and having no real place to work.

This, ideally, should not be set up in their bedroom, where it’s easy for them to slack off. This can be in an already existing study or in a space in the kitchen or living room, so long as it’s quiet and free of distractions when they come to use it.

Keep in touch with your child’s tutors

There comes a time each month where you should be seeing how your child is doing and what you can help with. If there isn’t anything you’re spotting from your child at home, then this is the time to talk to their teachers about what you can help with.

There will be a lot of different things your child’s teachers are going to notice, as it’s their job after all! But it also helps you make a note of what you can help them with at home.

Make learning fun in different ways

There are so many ways to have fun with your child and still make it a really educational experience. You could take them to the museum and test them on what they’ve picked up in biology lessons. If they really like art, take them to lots of different art stalls or exhibits within the local area that help them discover new and emerging artists on their doorstep.

Keep your child on their toes, and test them in different environments, like in the car, on walks and at the dinner table.

Consider a tutor for the future

As your child progresses they’re going to be learning a lot more, and so the difficulty will increase as they grow up. This all leads up to their GCSE exams that will be the true test of what your child has been learning for the past few years.

A lot of parents opt to get a tutor if they find their child is struggling in particular areas to bump up their grades. You can also do this if you feel your child is going to benefit from it. Tutors aren’t just useful for helping children with their education, but it gives them a new way to learn and access a wider range of academic material.

So long as you pursue different methods to help your child succeed, they’ll amaze you with their triumphs in school and beyond. Give them that chance early on by being there for them no matter what they need.
