Halloween isn’t all about jump scares and horror marathons. Sometimes, the best way to celebrate is by getting cosy on the sofa, grabbing a big bowl of popcorn, and watching something that gives you all the spooky vibes without keeping the kids (or you!) up all night.
Whether you’ve got little ones who love a light-hearted ghost story or teens who fancy something a bit creepier, here’s a round-up of the best Halloween films for all ages, from funny and cute to classic and just a little bit spooky.
For Little Ones (Ages 3–7)
Room on the Broom
Short, sweet, and completely charming, this Julia Donaldson adaptation is perfect for younger children. It’s got a kind witch, a dragon, and a lovely message about friendship and helping others.
Hotel Transylvania
This animated favourite is full of silly monsters, funny moments, and just the right amount of spookiness. Plus, the voice cast (Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, and more) make it a joy to watch for adults too.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Whichever version you choose, the Addams clan are Halloween royalty. Their spooky charm and dark humour make for a brilliant family movie night that never goes out of style.
Make It a Proper Movie Night
To make your Halloween movie marathon extra special, go all out on the snacks. Think popcorn, toffee apples, orange squash, and maybe even some themed treats like ghost-shaped biscuits. Get everyone into pyjamas, dim the lights, and make a blanket fort if you’re feeling fancy.
You could even turn it into a little family tradition, one Halloween film each weekend throughout October, building up to a big spooky night on the 31st.
